Why USMLE ; All You Need To Know

The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) is a three-step exam that assesses a physician’s ability to apply medical knowledge, skills, and understanding of clinical science in patient care. The exam is required for licensure to practice medicine in the United States.

USMLE Exam Pattern

USMLE Step 1

This exam assesses a physician’s ability to apply basic science concepts to medicine. Medical students typically take it after their second year of medical school.

USMLE Step 2

This exam is divided into Clinical Knowledge (CK) and Clinical Skills (CS). The CK exam assesses a physician’s ability to apply medical knowledge, skills, and understanding of clinical science to patient care. The CS exam assesses a physician’s ability to communicate with patients, take medical histories, and perform physical exams.

USMLE Step 3

This exam assesses a physician’s ability to apply medical knowledge and understanding of biomedical and clinical science to patient care and make appropriate clinical decisions.

Each step of the USMLE must be taken in sequence, and a passing score is required for each step to proceed to the next one.
